This illustration is a mock medical legal exhibit for a malpractice case that resulted in shoulder dystocia during birth. The aim of the illustration is to demonstrate to lay audiences how the newborn’s shoulder catching on the mother’s pubic symphysis combined with the pulling on the newborn’s head would stretch and injure the nerves involved in shoulder dystocia.
