The Night SHift
Serious game for the 2022 Vesalius Trust-a-thon
My Role:
Programming Team Lead & Digestion Mini-game Programmer
The Night Shift was created working with a team of 27 during a two-week scientific communications design challenge on the theme of new energy for the Vesalius Trust. Our overall project gamifies the tasks that the body undergoes to prepare itself for new energy for the next day into a series of four mini-games. Our team’s game came in first place and raised the most funds in the virtual fundraiser.
I served as the programming team lead for the Night Shift. I collaborated with other team leads and also participated in pre-production and art team meetings to ensure cohesiveness and feasibility of our overall game design. I was responsible for delegating tasks and managing the programming team, as well as individually coding one of the mini-games. The digestion mini-game required code to play sprite sheet animations, track gut bacteria collisions while jumping, count how many correct food items the gut bacteria have eaten and how many lives are left, and total the score at the end of the game.
